We are all under the influence of numbers through our names, addresses, time, money, addresses, telephones, keyboards, tapes, security numbers, bank accounts, elevators etc. Living without numbers is very difficult for human beings. Though the effect these numbers have on us cannot be seen or felt by us, these numbers do have an enormous effect on our lives, that's the theory behind Numerology. 

Numerology, as the name denotes, is the prediction of the future of the human beings using numbers. It is believed that each number has a meaning of its own and has its own influences on people.

Using the practical application of the elementary laws of mathematics to the material existence of man, Numerology helps us to have a glimpse of our future. It is similar to Astrology but is easier than the latter. Numerology uses numbers to denote objects which influence people in the universe while Astrology uses the objects itself such as the sun, the moon and the planets which influence the life of human beings significantly. Numerology deals with Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Uranus, Mercury, Venus, Neptune, Saturn and Mars which are denoted by numbers from 1 to 9 respectively. The date of birth of the person and his name is used to calculate the numerological influence on a person. It is also said that the influence of numbers changes from time to time.  

There are five different types of numerology: Kabbalah, Chaldean, Pythagorean, Abracadabra and New Kabbalah, among which the Pythagorean system is more popular because it is easier to learn. 

Ruling Number/Personality Number
This number gives an indication of your point of view. It takes into account just the number of the day of your birth. 

How to calculate Ruling Number/Personality Number
To calculate ruling number, just add the numbers of your date of birth. Eg. Niraj's birthday is on 23rd December.
To calculate Niraj's ruling number add 2+3 = 5, i.e. 5 is his ruling number. If Niraj's birthday is on 29th, add 2+9=11, further 1+1 = 2 is the ruling number. 

Life Path Number/Birth path Number
Life Path number is obtained by reducing the sum of your birth date into a single digit number. The number projects your personality depending upon the planetary position on your day of birth which no one can change. 

To calculate the date calculations we have to consider the date of birth of the person, expressed numerically, as mm/dd/yyyy. Total up the digits of each number (month, day and year) in your Birth date (don't reduce 11 or 22 which are master numbers). Continue to add the digits of these three numbers together until you have one number.

Eg, Niraj was born in June 05, 1975 (06/05/1975)

To reduce her birth date to a single digit, do the following calculations

0+6+0+5+1+9+7+5 = 33

Again, because we can't have a double digit number, we reduce this number further by adding together the two parts of the number 33.

33 = 3+3=6

The whole equation would look like:

(06/05/1975)= 1+0+6+0+5+1+9+7+5 = 33 = 3+3=6

Expression Number/Destiny number/Name number
Expression or Destiny number is derived from the alphabets of your full birth name. This number is used to find your talents and attitudes in this lifetime, and help you develop them for betterment in life.
What the Expression number gives you is your destiny or goal for this lifetime which can be attained if you try your level best. It becomes more obvious in the middle age of the person.
